Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data Rank Your Resume (“we”, “us”) collects when you use rankyourresume.com, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it. We’ve tried to keep it plain.

Who we are

Rank Your Resume is a crowd-sourced résumé ranking service. We are the data controller for the personal data described here. For any privacy question or request, email [email protected]and we’ll handle it.

What we collect

• Account & identity. Your email address and a unique account identifier (via our authentication provider, Clerk), the username you choose, and your account type (candidate or recruiter).
• Résumé data. When you upload a résumé (a PDF), we convert it into page images, detect likely personal details, and let you confirm what to redact. We store only the redacted page images you approve, together with the redaction regions, the years-of-experience band, and the country you provide.
• Activity.The comparisons (ratings) you make, star scores, any anonymous written feedback you leave on other résumés, and your résumé’s aggregate ranking.
• Technical & security data. Your IP address and timestamps, used to rate-limit requests and to detect abuse such as rating your own résumé, plus basic session information from our authentication provider.
• Cookies.Strictly-necessary cookies from our authentication provider to keep you signed in. We don’t use advertising cookies.

What we deliberately do not keep

• Your original résumé. Once you confirm your redactions, we burn them into the page images and permanently delete the original, un-redacted PDF. We never retain it.
• No public résumé URLs. Résumé images are served only through short-lived, signed links; they are not publicly browsable or guessable.
• No selling of data.We do not sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for third-party advertising.

Why we use your data (and our legal bases)

• To provide the service you signed up for: ranking résumés and showing you results (performance of a contract).
• To keep the platform secure and prevent fraud and abuse (our legitimate interests, balanced against your rights).
• With your consent, where you actively choose to upload and publish a redacted résumé. You can withdraw at any time by deleting it.
• To comply with the lawwhere we’re required to.

How long we keep it

• Account data: while your account is active.
• Résumé images, ratings and feedback: until you delete the résumé or close your account. Deleting a résumé removes its images and the comparison records tied to it.
• Security logs (such as IP addresses used for abuse detection): kept for a limited period, then deleted or anonymised.

Who we share it with

We share data only with service providers who process it on our behalf under contract, and only as needed to run the service:

• Authentication: Clerk, Inc.
• Cloud hosting & storage: reputable cloud infrastructure providers that host the service and store its data.

We may also disclose data where required by law or to protect our rights and users.

International transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including outside the EEA or UK. Where it is, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the EU/UK GDPR or California’s CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to:

• access a copy of your personal data;
• correct data that’s inaccurate;
• delete your data (“right to be forgotten”);
• restrict or object to how we process it;
• receive your data in a portable format;
• withdraw consent at any time;
• for California residents, know what we collect, request deletion, and opt out of any “sale” of personal information (we do not sell it).

You can exercise many of these directly in the app (edit your profile, delete individual résumés, or delete your account) or by emailing [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

How we protect your data

We discard original résumé files, burn redactions into the images we keep, serve those images only through signed expiring links, encrypt data in transit (HTTPS), and restrict access on a need-to-know basis. No system is ever perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your data.

Children

The service isn’t directed to anyone under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we’ll remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll change the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, take reasonable steps to let you know.
